Love, Loss, Serenity incorporates a 14 72 map of Rome from Hall’s husband Mark S. Weil’s PhD thesis book, The History and Decoration of the Ponte S. Angelo. Hall printed and then deconstructed the map, combining it with plastic detritus. The work’s circular shape recalls the cyclical nature of history, drawing parallels between the fall of the Roman Empire, the climate crisis, and the current state of our country. The spiked shapes throughout the work represent sea urchins which are dying off in areas en masse
