Sculptor Joan Hall works primarily with paper and print in her Rhode Island Studio where she has the capability to print up to five feet by ten feet and make paper up to eight feet by ten feet. She has been drawn to these processes throughout her career and they are the cornerstone to the work she produces and to the experimental techniques she has developed in papermaking and collagraph printing to produce her large-scale dimensional works.
The collaborative nature comes natural to her having trained in printmaking as a student. When creating pieces with metal or glass she works with craftsmen in fabrication studios in other locations, such as Dieu Donne Paper in NYC and Gather Glass in Providence, RI. She has always been interested in combining the materials of glass, paper, and metal in her artworks. Her experimentation in glass and metal are informed by her extensive knowledge of various printmaking techniques.
